The favourites completely fulfilled their role at the seventh TMG GT86 Cup Race: The duo of Hoffmeister/Fabian Wrabetz from Dörr Motorsport continued their winning streak, completing their sixth classified race of the season (the first VLN run was cancelled without classification) taking place one. Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid (WH Motorsport) were second. After a dramatic duel, the Belgian Team Pit Land with Bruno Barbaro, “Brody” and Olivier Muytjens had to content themselves with third position.
Starting the race from second place, after the pole position setters from WH Motorsport, Arne Hoffmeister already took command from the first round. “In spite of the rain, we have decided to start on slicks into the race. And rightly so. In the first two rounds, Arne Hoffmeister was busy keeping the car on the race track, but then it became more and more dry and our race actually went as planned,” Dörr team manager Uwe Isert summarised. The team had to overcome only one moment of shock. “In the middle of the race, during a scheduled pit stop, our petrol pump shut down for unexplainable reasons and did not get enough petrol into the car. That is why we fell out of our scheduled pit stop time frame and had to insert an addition fuel stop,” explainss Isert.
Following the superior frontrunners of the Cup, a duel for place two set in which was worth seeing. During the entire six-hour distance, the TMG GT86 CS-V3 with the start numbers 538 (WH Motorsport) and 532 (Pit Lane) raced in striking distance around the Eifel circuit, in the last rounds even in a direct duel. Both cars changed their positions several times. “With Oliver Muytjens, I had a great and fair duel at any time. That was really great fun,” reported Kevin Hönscheid at the finishing line. “In the last round, at the end of the Döttinger Höhe, I succeeded in carrying out the decisive overtaking manoeuvre. I guess I was only one metre ahead at the finishing line.” After 34 rounds, in other words more than 830 kilometres done at racing speed, the two cars crossed the finishing line with a difference of just 0.298 seconds.
The frontrunners Hoffmeister/Wrabetz who are still unbeaten in this season maintained their title chances in the VLN overall ranking due to this further success. Three races before the end of the season, the Dörr duo is in place three – only 1.01 points behind the league leaders Dirk and Tim Groneck.
Immediately before the seventh race of the season, TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH announced that the TMG GT86 Cup will be continued in 2016, too, within the framework of the VLN. Since its debut in 2013, the TMG GT86 Cup has established as a popular competition within the endurance championship on the Nürburgring. At a unique price-performance ratio, the Cup offers participants a racing car that is perfectly adjusted to the needs of the Nordschleife, making high-class motor sport possible at reasonable costs and gives the cup starters, as this season proves, even the opportunity to compete for the overall championship of the VLN.
