The champions have already been determined, but even after the early win by Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz (Dörr Motorsport), the ninth race in Toyota Motorsport GmbH’s brand cup, on 17 October, will still be exciting. After all, the unbeaten cup winners want to win another race this season and also maintain their good position in the VLN endurance championship table. Never before has any duo of drivers of the TMG-developed and constructed racing version of this sport coupé had such a good prospect of winning the VLN cup as well.
And then there will also be the battles for second and third rank. The duels between WH-Motorsport, with the Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid father-and-son duo, and Manuel Amweg and Thomas Lampert in their Toyota Swiss Racing TMG GT86 CS-V3 have always been a real highlight over the past few races. “Our young drivers even got better recently and drove their laps in less than 10 minutes,” says Roland Baumann, the Swiss team’s boss. “But in a tight contest like the TMG GT86 Cup you must always be on top of any situation, and in the seventh race we weren’t and lost points we now need. Still, we won’t give up. The second place is still a possibility”.
The Hönscheids, however, have scored all the time, even ending up second three times in a row lately. Now wonder then that they are now second in the table, behind Dörr-Motorsport and 14 points ahead of the Swiss. “We would have liked to challenge the new champions a bit more, but you simply have to admit that this season Hoffmeister/Wrabetz and their team have given their all and deserved to win,” says Wolfgang Hönscheid. “But it goes without saying that we want to defend our second place come what may. After all, we have been very close behind the Dörr boys occasionally. So, perhaps we will at least win this race. But then again, you can’t always get what you want,” says Wolfgang Hönscheid, who’s also his team’s boss.
