- Team TMG United continues to promote young talents in VLN
- With updated TMG GT86 CS-Cup in SP3 class
- New personnel structure in team
TMG United continues its tradition in the new season and gives young drivers the chance to gain experience in the VLN. Therefore the cooperation with last year’s driver Sascha Köhler (22) will continue. In 2016, Sascha had won the traditional selection process by TMG United and will now benefit from that experience in his second VLN season. His new team-mate will be Alex Fielenbach (24), who works for GT86 Cup competitor Mathol Racing. He drew attention in 2016 when he took the overall title, as well as the junior crown, in the RCN endurance series RCN, which is also based on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Alex already has a head start on his new assignment with TMG United, having won the RCN title at the wheel of a TMG GT86 CS-V3 race car.
The team itself is made up of TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH employees, who work on the project exclusively in their free time. For the new season, the team has reorganized itself. “Some of our colleagues have ended their engagement and have been replaced by new motorsport enthusiasts at TMG,” says Jörg Mertin, new team manager at TMG United. This season, the team is using the GT86 CS-Cup equipped with the upgrade kit. This includes a rise from the V3 class into SP3, which allows more modifications in search of extra performance.
Considering the new personnel structure in the team and the upgraded car, Jörg, who works as engine technician at TMG, does not want to set any specific targets. “We are currently preparing our proven GT86 CS-V3 and updating it with the 2016 performance kit, which includes a new aerodynamic package, a new airbox, improved engine mapping and a new gear ratio. We will also adopt the 2017 facelift kit with new front and rear bumper and headlights. For us, this season is mainly about growing together as a team and getting to know the car. So the only goal at the moment is to drive as much as possible and to get the best out of the car for our drivers,” explains Jörg.
Alex Fielenbach says: “I’m really looking forward to my first full season as a driver in the VLN and can only thank TMG for this great opportunity. 2017 is a learning year for me. It’s all about getting my performance in the course during the season and simply getting the best possible results.” His first assignment for TMG United will be at the season opener on 25 March.
