- Fourth round of TOYOTA’s one-make cup at the Nürburgring
- Milltek Racing’s lead shrinks
- Three teams separated by only one point
High tension in the fight for the overall victory has become a tradition in the TMG GT86 Cup. However, the fact that three teams are only separated by a single point at the top of the TMG GT86 Cup standings prior to the fourth round of the season on the 8 July at the Nürburgring is something special.
Milltek Racing (44 points) has been Cup leader since the first race of the season, but the newcomer’s advantage has been reduced to one point after three races. Thanks to their first victory this year in race three, defending champions Toyota Swiss Racing are now in hot pursuit of Milltek Racing. Despite their crash in race one, which will be most likely their scratch result, the Swiss team, thanks to their driver Frédéric Yerly, was also able to secure six additional points thanks to three consecutive pole positions.
Leutheuser Racing & Events is third in the overall Cup ranking. The 2013 Cup winners are still searching for their first win in 2017 but have scored plenty of points thanks to their great consistency. In race three, the team came close to that elusive victory with a narrow second place.
In the slip stream of the leading trio, another Cup newcomer, AM Motorsport, has established themselves in fourth position with 32 points. Driver and team manager Alexander Müller said: “We have steadily increased since our Cup entry. In the meantime, we know the car and are now in a position to regularly drive the Norschleife-lap in less than ten minutes. In the third race, we were close to the podium with a fourth place. Now we want to be part of the prize-giving ceremony.” However, his driving partner Jan Focke will not be available for the fourth round, therefore he will try to achieve this goal as a duo together with Harald Leppert.
