The second TMG GT86 Cup race of the season will take place at the Nürburgring on 25 April, but with a few changes; new safety measure and a new team.
For safety reasons, the governing DMSB has imposed new rules on the Nordschleife, including speed limits of 200km/h in some sections, due to an accident during the first VLN race of 2015.
This means the TMG GT86 Cup drivers have an additional consideration when fighting for position. “When approaching ‘Schwedenkreuz’ our speed is approximately 220km/h. Depending upon where exactly the speed limit takes effect, it may well be that we will also have to slow down. We will have to get used to that,” says Wolfgang Hönscheid, WH Motorsport driver and team boss.
Just like last year, Toyota Team Thailand will take part in the Cup. Their Cup car will again be prepared and fielded by Team Leipert Motorsport, whose boss Ingo Leipert is looking forward to meet his charges from south-east Asia. “The lads can surely drive races. There are no beginners among them and they also rise to the Nordschleife challenges now,” he says. He is especially pleased with their excellent English, adding: “There is no problem at all when we cooperate on the race track.” The racy sport coupé TMG GT86 CS-V3 aside, Leipert Motorsport also uses two Toyota Corollas, which will start in the VLN V3 class so a total of eight Thai drivers will come all the way to the Eifel. “We will only assign the drivers shortly before the races,” says Leipert. Two of them took part in the TMG GT86 Cup last year; for their colleagues it would be their first time.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “We are very pleased that our Thai guests enjoy our series that much and will again take part. After the accident in the first VLN race at the end of March I now hope for a normal race for all drivers and teams and thus for the motorsport we all would like to see.”
