After a difficult start to the season, Vantage Motorsport have discovered the winning feeling in their debut TMG GT86 Cup year, taking victory in the fourth round of the season for their second successive win.
The 45th Adenauer ADAC Simfy Trophy ended prematurely in the final hour due to an accident, leaving Vantage Motorsport siblings Sarah and Nigel Moore in their TMG GT86 CS-V3 race car taking the honours. They became the first double winners this season while second place went to Alexander and Wolfgang Kudrass with Martin Tschornia in Leutheuser Racing & Events team. Father and son Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid (WH-Motorsport) took third.
The British team’s superiority was impressive. Nigel Moore, who after three consecutive pole positions this time started from second place, dominated the race right from the start. He took the lead in the TMG GT86 Cup rankings in the first lap and then continually extended it. Sarah never got the chance to drive as the race was abandoned at exactly the moment when Nigel was ready to handover the car.
“Today, it was almost perfect. While we were having some set-up problems during the qualifying, the race went great,” Nigel Moore said after the victory ceremony. “But it wasn’t easy either. The Nordschleife keeps you focused the whole time. If you aren’t, the race is over.”
The VLN overall ranking also shows how successful Vantage Motorsport was: in a field of 207 cars Moore had started ranking 138th. When the race was abandoned after about 200 minutes, the car was 93rd.
While the #539 Vantage Motorsport car had a lonely race at the front, there was an exciting fight for the top three involving the two Leutheuser Racing & Events cars (#540 and #545), WH-Motorsport (#538) and the Toyota Swiss Racing team (#532). They chased each other relentlessly until the red flag put an unexpected end to it.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport:“Today, we have again seen everything that motorsport is about; fascinating races, speed and exciting duels in perfect conditions on the Nürburgring. Congratulations to Vantage Motorsport on their sterling performance. After a rather difficult beginning in our TMG GT86 Cup, Vantage Motorsport has soon developed into a team to beat. I’m sure that our established Cup teams see that as a challenge and will come back at them at the next race on 5 July, after our summer break.”
