The 6th race marked the start of the second half of the TMG GT86 Cup on Nürburgring’s Nordschleife. And this race of the TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) brand cup was won by the siblings Sarah and Nigel Moore, Vantage Motorsport. With their Toyota GT86 CS-V3, numbered 539, they had started from the pole position and won after 23 laps, Vantage Motorsport’s third win. Second were Maciej Dreszer, Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz of the Team Dörr Motorsport. Leutheuser Racing&Events, with its drivers Alexander and Wolfgang Kudrass and Martin Tschornia ranked third.
It hadn’t been a walkover, though. Especially in the first half of the 4h race, the Moores fought an exciting battle against Dörr Motorsport, Leutheuser Racing&Events and Toyota Swiss Racing. The top position in the class ranking changed hands repeatedly and only in the final hour did Moore/Moore get more of an edge on the others. 1.22,782 minutes it was when they crossed the finish line. “We are totally happy with this result. Our team once again had perfectly prepared our car,“ said Nigel Moore to thank his team. “But the race was physically demanding. The heat in the car was hard to bear.” His sister, Sarah, confirms: “One unplanned pit stop because of a tyre damage aside, it was a very good race for us. Nigel’s pole time had already shown what our car would be capable of today. We are very glad that we were able to keep that speed in the race proper. And for the overall ranking, we have been able to catch up.“
The WH-Motorsport team, however, had bad luck. Father and son, Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid, showed very good lap times and came ever closer. Nine minutes before the end of the 4 h distance this tactic of constant driving seemed to pay off when the team from Hennef was third. But then an accident in the Schwedenkreuz dashed all their hopes.
The next TMG GT86 Cup race will take place in three weeks. On 23 August, the Langstreckenmeisterschaft VLN, of which the TMG GT86 Cup is part, will organise the ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen. At 6 hours, this is considered to be the highlight of the VLN season.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “I am very glad that today we have seen an exciting, uninterrupted race and no major incidents. I congratulate the Team Vantage Motorsport, who with their third win this season have made the fight for the top of the TMG GT86 Cup table even more exciting. This attests to the quality of the field in our brand cup and to the fact that our identical racers make for the same conditions for all drivers.“
