TMG GT86 Cup race 2: Dörr Motorsport victorious on Nordschleife

The second TMG GT86 Cup race of the season proved to be a very dramatic one, won by Dörr Motorsport with the #534 GT86 CS-V3 race car driven by Maciej Dreszer (PL), Arne Hoffmeister (D) and Fabian Wrabetz (D).

But it was a disrupted race for the whole VLN field; the red flags came out after 49 minutes due to a serious accident in the Pflanzgarten section, which thankfully saw all involved emerge safely. It took almost four hours to repair 80m of fence before the race could be re-started at 4.48pm.

This made for extra excitement, with the race result decided by combining the results of the first and second parts of the race. Dörr Motorsport it was who took the honours, having led before the red flags.

Leutheuser Racing & Events, who made a successful start to the season earlier this month, finished ahead of the TMG GT86 Cup field in the second part of the race, the aggregate times gave the victory to car #534 and Dörr Motorsport. Even though the race did not run its full distance, full points were awarded as the minimum 160-minute running time was exceeded.

“In the end, we were very surprised and happy that we won,” said Arne Hoffmeister. “We didn’t even know what edge we had gained in the first leg or if our second place in the second leg was enough for a win. So we were very happy indeed when we saw the result.”

Toyota Swiss Racing – #532 Roland Schmid (CH), Roger Vögeli (CH) and Werner Schmid (CH) was classified second by a small margin, and the third place was taken by the Leutheuser Racing&Events team – #540 Alexander Kudrass (D), Martin Tschornia (D) and Wolfgang Kudrass (D).

Toyota Team Thailand, supported by Leipert Motorsport, made a strong debut in the TMG GT86 Cup. Nattavude Charoensukhawatana, Nattapong Hortongkam and Smittachartch Suttipong drove well on the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife and finished eighth, without any mistakes being made.It was the first time a Thai team has taken part in the VLN.

Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “The close result in the TMG GT86 Cup once again showed how excellent this field is. Today, the excitement lasted beyond the end of the race. After all, we first had to add the recorded times to be able to reveal the winner. The accident that led to the suspension showed that there is always some risk, but it is good news that the two drivers are fine.“
