- 9th TMG GT86 Cup race
- Amweg/Lampert want to stay on top
- 2nd and 3rd hoping for a slip-up by the leaders
The TMG GT86 Cup is still undecided: 40 points to award in the last two races and 31 points separating the first and the third team. So every point counts – also in the ninth race this season, on 8 October at the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife.
Manuel Amweg and Thomas Lampert of the Toyota Swiss Racing Team have won four races this season and, even more important, thus far have been the only ones who have ended all races scoring points. The duo from Switzerland and Liechtenstein have scored 139 points in this attractive TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) brand cup and their boss, Roland Baumann, wants them to stay on top. “We have the best position now, but a lot can happen in two races. So we want to cross the finish line and collect the points!” he says.
Nils Jung and Florian Wolf (Ring Racing, 125 points) had to find out how important that is when they scored naught in the seventh race after having a crash in the qualifying race and being unable to take part after. But now the team wants to fight for the title and their boss, Uwe Kleen, provides mental support: ”Our drivers have shown a huge development over the current season. Often, their lap times are just a wee bit slower than Arne Hoffmeister’s in 2015, when he won the championship. And as long as we might be able to win, we will try.“
The third in the table, “Brody“, Bruno-Francesco Barbaro and Olivier Muytjens (108 points, Pit Lane – AMC Sankt Vith), also have to compensate for not having scored in the eigth race, after an accident that hadn’t even been their fault. “Now we stand less of a chance, of course,” says Olivier Muytjens, their team boss. “We can’t win the championship without outside help,” is his realistic assessment. “But we may have a surprise in store like in the first race, when we won,” the Belgian says.
