TMG GT86 Cup season opening: Established teams meet newcomers

  • Eight teams with a total of ten cars start the season
  • GT86 CS-Cup cars with a facelift
  • Exciting races guaranteed in TOYOTA’s one-make cup

With a total of eight teams and ten vehicles, the TMG GT86 Cup will be part of the endurance race series VLN for the fifth season in a row.

This season’s first race will surely be an exciting one due to the mixture of old and new. Established teams like Leutheuser Racing & Events, Pitlane – AMC Sankt Vith, Ring Racing and the Toyota Swiss Racing Team are facing new challengers such as AM Motorsport, Bonduel Racing, Milltek Racing and Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport. Therefore, the forces in the TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH one-make cup will be mixed again!

As reigning champions in the GT86 Cup, the Toyota Swiss Racing Team starts the season with a new driver pairing. The experienced Swiss Frederic Yerly, 2014 champion in the DMV touring car challenge, replaces Thomas Lampert and therefore races alongside Manuel Amweg. “We definetly want to defend our title this year, but we know that this will certainly be difficult with the high performance level in the GT86 Cup. The CS-Cup cars race so close to each other, this is really extraordinary for an endurance series and makes it unpredictable,” explains team manager Roland Baumann.

After the comprehensive upgrade last year, the 214 hp GT86 CS-Cup features several further enhancements. A new exhaust from partner Milltek Sport ensures even more drivability, especially in the low speed range. The 2017 CS-Cup is visually different as well. Following the facelift of the GT86 production car, the race version also features new front and rear bumper and new headlights. “Our customers do not have to buy a new car due to the facelift. Our main target for the GT86 Cup is still cost efficiency, therefore we offer all Cup participants a cost-effective facelift kit, but they can of course also drive the 2016 spec car,” explains Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport at TMG.
