- 10th TMG GT86 Cup race this season
- Amweg/Lampert champions for the first time?
- Jung/Wolf need to win to stand a chance
The TMG GT86 Cup races this year have been very exciting indeed, so it is no wonder that the championship will only be decided in the last race, on 22 October, with Manuel Amweg and Thomas Lampert of the Toyota Swiss Racing Team (159 points) 17 points ahead of Nils Jung and Florian Wolf (Ring Racing, 142 points). Since they have scored more wins, Amweg and Lampert only need to score three points to make them champions.
So right now the Swiss team is rather optimistic. “The odds are certainly not against us,” Hannes Gautschi, the boss, says, but not without adding: “We will have to finish this race first. And quite a lot can happen in a race, as we all know.“
A realistic but also proud Uwe Kleen has this to say about the current table: “We rank second in the championship and that is certain. That is a great result for us. After all, this is our first year in the TMG GT86 Cup with a car of our own,“ the Ring Racing team’s boss says. “There is, of course, some upside potential, but let’s face it: the Toyota Swiss Racing Team would then have to have a lot of bad luck and we certainly do not want them to suffer a breakdown,“ Kleen outline. “We find it important that both teams fight fairly and correctly, as we have done all season long.“
For the third and fourth in the championship table, the Belgian team Pitlane – AMC Sankt Vith’s cars (116 and 78 points respectively), the final race is just about a good result. “In the last few races, we had a lot of bad luck. I hope that this time we won’t. Just like always, we will give our best to show a good performance and have a positive result. We want to end the season proudly,” their boss, Olivier Muytjens, says.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsports: “Whoever may win the championship in this final race of our brand cup this season will fully deserve it. Even though the Toyota Swiss Racing Team leads by 17 points, in an endurance championship race, particularly one on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, a lot can happen. That the championship will only be decided in the final race makes it all very exciting, for the drivers and teams in particular. We hope for a great final race.“
