TMG GT86 Cup race 3: Optimised GT86 CS-V3 racer fast than ever

Red flag confusion in the first race, long suspension due to an accident in the second; what next in the third round of the TMG GT86 Cup? On Saturday (26 April) the fast-growing one-make competition will again race as part of the VLN series at the Nürburgring, with more excitement – and more fast lap times – expected.

Just in time, the VLN organisation corrected the result of the first race, ending confusion which arose due to a red flag being incorrectly shown to some competitors. “Some participants were confused and lost time,” says Andreas Thamm, chairman of the VLN race organisation team. “We wanted a fair solution. The race was suspended in the 26th lap so according to race regulations, the result was determined after lap 24.” Since a protest has been filed in the V6 class, this result remains provisional.

This correction also affects the TMG GT86 Cup teams. The teams that retired shortly before the end of the first race, WH-Motorsport and the Leutheuser Racing & Events car #545, are now classified second and fourth respectively. However, the correction has had no impact upon the top of the Cup standings. After their win in the first race and their third place in the second, Martin Tschornia and Alexander and Wolfgang Kudrass of the Leutheuser Racing & Events team (#540) are still ranking leading the way.

This weekend the CS-V3 race car, optimised by TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) for the second year of the TMG GT86 Cup, will again show how significantly its performance has increased over the winter. The first two Cup races of 2014 have already seen much faster lap times; the time of 9mins 46.481secs in qualifying for the second race, by Nigel Moore, is the fastest any participant in the TMG GT86 Cup has ever achieved on the Nordschleife.

Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “I want to thank the VLN organisers for solving the problem arising from the confusion fast and fairly. The participants in the TMG GT86 Cup therefore also know what the score is before they start the second race this weekend. This makes the overall ranking unambiguous and provides the best conditions for an exciting third race, in which our Cup participants will again show what they are able to achieve on one of the most challenging tracks anywhere.”
