It’s getting serious: the TMG GT86 Cup participants only have two races left to taste glory this season. The ninth of 10 Cup races this season is again part of the VLN championship at the Nürburgring and starts on 11 October at 12 noon.
The favourites are the current leaders, Maciej Dreszer, Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz, in their Dörr Motorsport TMG GT86 CS-V3, number 534. For Arne Hoffmeister this is not much of a surprise: “It was our objective this season to be at or near the top, and so far it has certainly worked. In the next race, we want to be equally successful,” says the 26-year-old automotive mechatronics engineer. “We know the car, we know the track and all of us know what he or she has to do. So I’m quite optimistic that we are going to score well again.”
To increase its chances, Dörr Motorsport has added to its team. According to the VLN rules, the number of points to be won depends upon the number of starters in their class. So Dörr Motorsport has added another two TMG GT86 CS-V3s to its two permanent entries. “One of the cars will be driven by three Americans. The other is one is shared between the Finnish rally driver Sebastian Lindholm, his son Emil and one of our regular drivers, who will start twice, as it were,” says Uwe Isert, the team manager.
The Americans and Finns, however, will not be the only international guests at the ninth race. For the third time this year Leipert Motorsport, from Wegberg near Mönchengladbach, will run a car for Toyota Team Thailand. The cockpit will again be shared by Arto Suttipong Smittachartch, president of Toyota Racing Development in Thailand, and sports car driver Nattavude Charoensukhawatana. The third driver will be Vutthikorn Inthraphuvasak in his first TMG GT86 Cup race.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “It is getting ever more exciting now on this final stretch in the battle for Cup honours. I really look forward to this race. After all, it is made even more of an occasion by all the international entrants, which only goes to show how interesting and appealing the Cup is.”
